About Greentree Toyota

Harold Tananbaum always had a passion for cars. With a stable career in capital finance and three young children, he knew it was risky, but when he saw an advertisement for a franchise opportunity in Automotive News magazine, Harold knew he had to take his chance.

On the day of his youngest daughter’s birthday in September 1976, Harold opened the doors to Greentree Toyota for the first time. Starting with just 25 employees, Greentree sold an impressive 26 cars in their first month. Over the years, these numbers have continued to grow. Today Greentree employs approximately 120 individuals who work hard to make sure you receive the family-like attention that Harold believed is essential for a positive car-buying experience.

Harold’s son and current owner of Greentree Toyota, Max Tananbaum, first became an employee of the dealership in 1980, washing cars during the summer when he was just eleven years old. He joined the dealership full-time in 1992.

Just three years earlier, in July 1989, Greentree purchased land on Commerce Road in Brookfield to build a state-of-the-art service center. Supporting over 30 bays and a full-service body shop, the service center was Greentree’s first expansion. By 1995, Greentree Toyota had continued to grow so much that Harold purchased property on Federal Road in Danbury and relocated the dealership to its current location.

The only thing more important to Harold than cars was his family, and to his delight, his grandson, Jared, eagerly began working part-time at the dealership the day he turned sixteen. Nowadays, Jared is the used car manager, marking the third generation of Tananbaums working full-time at Greentree!
